Life’s Gluten Free Pleasures | Rachel Begun, MS, RD

I haven’t done these posts in a while, but since I have eaten some really great gluten free dishes lately, I figured I’d start it back up again. My goal is to recap my favorite gluten free bites at the end of each month. Here, my favorite gluten free restaurant meals eaten this month.

The B.A.L.T. (Bacon, Avocado, Lettuce and Tomato)
97 Lake in West Harrison, NY
For those of us in the tri-state NY area, 97 Lake is a godsend.  They have a trustworthy full menu of gluten free bar and grill food.  The B.A.L.T. is not just good by gluten free standards, it is good by all standards.  From the awesome bacon, avocado, lettuce and tomato filling to the you-wouldn’t-know-it’s-gluten free bread, to the hand-cut French fries, this is a treat.

Gluten Free Vegan Donut Holes
Shine in Boulder, CO
These delicious bites brought me back to sweet memories of beignets.  They may not look perfect, but they were amazing.  My husband loved them, too, and he isn’t gluten free.

Jamaican Jerk Tempeh
Leaf Vegetarian in Boulder, CO
Ordered without the fried plantain crisp on top and ensuring a wheat-free soy sauce and gluten free tempeh were used, this dish was absolutely wonderful.  Forbidden rice on the bottom, layered with tempeh, kale, beet and a nutty sauce, this dish was full of flavor and very filling.  Gluten free vegetarian done just right.
