Life’s Gluten Free Pleasures: Martin’s Marvelous Crisps Review and Giveaway | Rachel Begun, MS, RD

gluten free crisps

There are good gluten free products out there and then there are the outstanding products, which fall into my “Life’s Gluten Free Pleasures” category.  Martin’s Marvelous Crisps are the latter.

I had the wonderful pleasure of sampling their gluten and nut free Rosemary Lavender Crisps. They are clearly made in small batches (as is confirmed on the package), as I could see and feel the seeds and dried fruits in this light, crisp cracker.  Plus, they are in slightly different shapes and sizes…love that! The hint of rosemary, lavender and brown sugar amongst the sunflower seeds, hemp seeds and raisins make for a beautiful and unique contrast of sweet and savory.

The crisps also come in Pumpkin Seed Cranberry, Chocolate Molé and Date and Olive Tapenade varieties.  I haven’t tried these flavors, but based on what I experienced with the Rosemary Lavendar I’d be glad to.

What I really like about Martin’s Marvelous is their transparency about the gluten free ingredients and manufacturing practices they use.  This copy comes straight from the package:

“Our marvelously crunchy crisps are made in small batches from Canadian grown pure oats* Sourced from farmers who grow only non-GMO oats on dedicated farms, the oats are tested to ensure the absence of wheat, and then ground into oat flour.

*RS ELISA Certified.  Although pure oats are suitable for celiac and wheat allergy diets, there is a small percentage of people who may not tolerate even the purest of oats.  Please check first with your health practitioner to confirm suitability of pure oats in your diet.”

I would have made the same statement, but since they said it so well I felt it better to show you what kind of a company they are.

These light, flavorful crackers are plenty good on their own, but should you want to pair it with something I recommend a mild soft cheese, such as brie or neufchatel.  I even sampled them with homemade cashew cheese, which made for a divine snack.

It goes without saying that a product meeting my “Life’s Gluten Free Pleasures” standards should be shared with others.  So, below please find contest rules for a giveaway of this still hard-to-find Canadian product.

I would love to win because Gluten free products are expensive and it’s hard to try all the brands out there. I would love to be able to find a good cracker, so far I have only tasted ones that are just ok.

Then we discovered that my husband and two more of my children also have it. Triumph Dining’s grocery guide and resturant guide have been very beneficial in giving us hope of safe products on the market and safe locations that we can eat out. The iphone would definitely help make locating information about gluten free products even easier. I will disqualify myself from the contest as I am a brother to the eponymous Martin, but may I add to your glowing review that they are also excellent with Martin’s Marvelous Fig Salami, a vegan ‘salami’ made with figs, apricots, and – yes – chocolate?

  10. nik says:

I’d like to know if there are any commercial gluten-free breads available that are higher in fiber (at least 4g per slice)? I can’t bake worth a darn and would love to find a great-tasting high fiber GF sandwich bread. Thanks!

All celiac’s know how dlificuft and time consuming it can be to shop for gluten free food. It can be exhausting and then you still have to go home to prepare your meal, and hope it turns out so your kids will eat it. 17. Lisa Lipinski says:

I recently made the switch to gluten-free. I read the book Wheat Belly and have done some internet research and have realized that my symptoms can be explained by eating a wheat-filled diet. I have been very strict on this new lifestyle change and hope to see improvements very soon. I am still trying to find some good recipes and gluten-free products (beginning is the hardest part) but I know it will come with time.
